What is Scabies?
Scabies is a parasitic infection. Scabies is a highly contagious skin disease. It usually spreads by physical contact.
Direct skin to skin contact is the mode of transmission of Scabies.
In Ayurveda Scabies is known as Kachchhu. It includes tiny red burrows on the skin and relentless itching.
In Scabies Usually the skin rash composed of the bumps and blisters effects the thin skin layer areas below the collar line.
Causes of Scabies :-

more than 72 hours without contact of the human
body. But once it come in the contact of the human
body it can live up to two months.
This mite burrows into the human body and cause the relentless itching and skin rash. Which is also called scabies rash.
This mite is the main cause of the scabies.
Scabies is a (STD) sexually transmitted disease, while it is not in the all cases, it can transmitted in many ways like physical contact, using the same things which are patient is using (the things which are directly contact with the patient).
Even hugging each other is sufficient to spread the mite.
It is also involves, to transmit the scabies mite close person to person skin contact. The infestation of Scabies occurs worldwide, it can effect the people of any age or race. It has been estimated that about 300 million cases occur every year in the world.

Signs and Symptoms of Scabies :-

Scabies effects the thin skin layer areas thus, the interior auxiliary folds inside of the elbows, side of the wrist joints , hands and the fingers commonly effected on the upper limb.
On the trunk the site most commonly effected are female breasts, the abdomen, the male genital organ and buttocks.
In the lower limb, the thigh, ankles and feet are generally effected.
There are itching papules and it may be marked by scratching, inflammation, pus formation, eczema.
Ayurvedic Treatment of Scabies :-

sulphur is taken in a big spoon and to this, some cows ghee is added so that the sulphur powder gets fully submerged in the ghee.
The kitchen spoon is then kept over an oven and heated. As the ghee starts boiling the sulphur melts and mixed up with the ghee. In another pot cows milk is kept and its mouth is covered with a thin cloth. Over this cloth, the hot ghee containing sulphur is poured and through this cloth, the sulphur comes down to the milk inside the port. Coming in contact with milk, the sulphur gets solidified and it is to be taken out from the milk and washed with warm water.
This process is to be repeated for seven times. The sulphur thereby becomes not only becomes free from extraneous impurities, but also becomes nontoxic and therapeutically more effective when taken internally.
This sulphur is to be made into a powder and kept in dry water. This is to be given to the patient in a dose of 0.2 gm. two times per day, mixed with honey on empty stomach. The ghee which becomes out of the milk to which sulphur is added very useful for external applications.
This is very effective for Scabies treatment and has no any side effect. It is a Home remedy for Scabies.
Precautions in Scabies :-
The part of the body effected by scabies should be washed daily with water boiled with neem (Azadirachta indica) leaves. Soap prepared with neem leaves is very useful.
Neem leaves can also be chewed and taken internally also. Tender neem leaves which are not very bitter, are maid into a pill to the size of a pea and given to the patient, twice a day. Other family members should not use the personal things which are being used by the patient like bed, soap, towel etc.
The patient should develop clean habits. He should tale bath daily, If possible water boiled with neem leaves. Exercises, brisk walk in fresh air in the morning and evening are very useful for the patient.
What should avoid by the Scabies Patient :-

Pickles, curd and molasses are strictly prohibited.
These things should avoid by the Scabies patient. Care should be taken to see that the patient gets clean motion. If not, a laxative may be given to him.
Avoid sweet things as much as possible because it results bad in Scabies.
Scabies in Dogs (Could it infect you) :-
Pets (Dogs) are infest by the another kind of Scabies which is called Mange.

It is because, the mange mite cannot survive or reproduce on human body. So it's not possible to caught by scabies from dog or pet.
Animals don't spread the same type of mite, which causes the human Scabies. So Scabies in dogs is not dangerous for human beings.
So people don't need to be treated if they come into the contact with mange mite. But dogs, pets and cats needs to be treated if they caught by mange because it results fur lose, itching, scaly and itchy skin of infected animal.
Scabies Medicines :-
It includes oral as well as topical cream application
medicines. In Scabies Doctor must be concern, because if it is chronic, it results badly.
In the topical cream application treatment Permethrin (Elimite) cream may be used, in the first line treatment. This cream can be applied from neck to feet directly to the skin. It should remain on the skin overnight (8 to 12) hours and then washed off. The second application of the cream is usually recommended after one to two weeks. This is for the first line treatment.
Other topical medicine for scabies includes Crotamiton (Crotan, Eurax)
lotion or cream.
It is available in both forms cream as well as lotion. Sulphur ointment can also be used as the Scabies Medicine.
Oral medicines for scabies is usually used when scabies covers the large part of the body or when scabies is in chronic state. Oral medicine has advantage that it is easy to take. Oral medicine is not the first choice treatment because it can cause unwanted side effects.
If much itching is disturbing then Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) can be taken to get relief from the itching.
It may help to control the itching and allow the patient to sleep.
